BACKGROUND:  I have the Legacy PRR E7 AA set and add on Legacy powered B-unit.  I want to add diesel prime mover sound to the powered B-unit but you cannot buy Legacy sound modules through Lionel's parts department.  The add on breakdown unit does have sound, but it is not legacy.  In another topic, I learned the breakdown B-unit's diesel sound can only be controlled manually.  Also in another topic I learned about just adding a second speaker to the B-unit, running it off the sound board in the A-unit.  This would require changing the speaker in the A-unit to match the ohm requirement of the sound board.

QUESTION:  Can I order the sound module parts from the breakdown B-unit and install them in the powered B-unit?  I understand I would have to control the sound manually (revs and volume), but that is acceptable.  I would run the sound at a set level just so it does not sound "dead".  If adding the sound module would not work, I will pursue the second speaker option.  Thanks.

You could add a RS4 board along with a R2LC and program it for the same ID as your engine. I have heard but not tried connecting the serial data line from a Legacy radio board to a RS4 board. I think you will get most sounds but not all as Legacy has an extra data bit. This info from the person who has installed Legacy in non Legacy engines. Hopefully others will confirm.
