First time posting for a while since I was diagnosed with Parkinson a year ago.  Doing okay though.

To the question...We used carpeting as the train room is an extension from the other room in the basement.  I love it as it is quiet, dust free, and just 'feels' warmer.  If I had to do it again we would probably still go with carpenting.

Best of luck to all of you!!

Hi Lee,

My 2 cents, first, get a product called anti icky poo, just do a search on the internet.  My dog had a few accidents and this stuff work very well, even on old stains.  The original label included "decomposing bodies" in the list of odors it would remove. Second, check out any local restaurant supply store for carpet/runners.  The area carpets they use in entryways to kitchens etc. have a heavy rubber bottom to prevent slipping, and the carpet is thick and tough, plus they absorb shock.

Stephen

I don't have any doggy odor problems.  I have a carpet with gobs of paint food and drink stains from when my son lived there, glue and paint stains from my use, and lots and lots of wear up and down the isles.

I have a four foot section of that 36" carpet runner (see above) in place now as a test to see if it creeps or wrinkles, etc.  Based on that I will decide what to do.
