That one is really running and smoking very well. 312 is one of my favorites.
Sure wish I was lucky enough to have a basement.
Thanks for posting - My first train was the No 310 K5 w/out smoke or choo-choo. Later I received a 312 and really enjoyed the effects. I remember the smoke ampules being expensive ($1.25 ea?) and were 'rationed'...

Got this on Ebay a few weeks ago for only $72 total. Does that sound like a good price?
Yes, smoke in boiler. I noticed that in neutral that the light and smoke heater element do not come on like my Lionel steamers. I like to get the heater hot and then put in gear. Also, I sometimes have to tap the tender when the e-unit sticks. Haven't had time yet to take apart and service. Still is a great runner!
Even by today's standards Gilbert locomotives are still impressive given the technology of the time. I have quite a fleet that I enjoy very much.
