I bought a TIU that was supposed to be new. It did not come with the cable that goes from the AIU to the TIU. Does anyone know what kind of cable this is. Can I use a LAN cable or regular phone cable. Any help would be great. I have sent the seller an email but who knows when they will get back to me.

Just recently when I got back into the hobby I discovered I lost my cable as well. Turns out you can look up the pin outs and it is a reversed cable.  I built my own using parts I had around the shop. I think I used an eight wire cable and just didn’t use two of the wires. Your reverse the wires and use your telephone connector clamp tool and you can make any length you want.

While I've not tested extreme lengths, years ago it was suggested there could be a limit to how long is OK before the TIU may not be able to properly drive the circuits in remote AIUs (particularly if you daisy chained several, IIRC).

At the time, the concept was just using a 25 foot cable that (at the time) was commonly available at Radio Shack.  Using one AIU with such a cable was no problem.  Stringing several AIUs with the 25 foot cable on each one was cautioned by several extremely DCS savvy people, I believe.

Something to be possibly aware of, depending on what length someone may "want".
