Yesterday I spent some time over at Alex M’s repair shop.  In the past he has worked on many of my older TMCC Steam engines for ERR upgrades and repairs.  I had asked him if he could look at one of my Lionel diesels, the 6-38182 MKT FA2 from 2003.  Normally with diesels I will attempt the repairs but this one was in such bad shape I decided to let Alex have a look at it.

Alex disassembled the entire engine right down to the gears in the gear boxes on both trucks.  Cleaned all the gears, applied new grease and changed all the traction tires while he had it completely disassembled.  Then replaced the power pickup rollers as some were really worn and on others the spring was broken.

Once he had that all together he replaced the TMCC board with a ERR Cruise M, cleaned up the smoke unit and replaced the batting.  Then he fixed the lights that were not functioning.

Once everything was reassembled he tested it and it ran flawlessly.  The unit now runs better than it did when it was new!

Alex took the time to explain everything he was doing as he completed each step.  If anyone needs any type of upgrade or repair for their Steam or Diesel engines I would highly recommend Alex M.

See the short videos below.  The layout is a work in progress so don't mind the mess..

This post a and replies are a great example of the good will and trust Alex has developed among his customers and contacts for the service he provides, and the gratitude that his customers have for him.

As a new Forum member from NY, I don't know Alex and never even heard of him until I read the above, which could not be more positive about Alex.

I have my own local "Alex" (I'm not disclosing my repair guy's real name because he is not a Forum member and does not subscribe to OGR). If you are like me and are mechanically challenged, you need the real Alex or someone like him to fix your trains.

Based on these testimonials about Alex's outstanding work, if my guy could not fix it, I wouldn't hesitate to contact Alex and schedule a meeting with him in Freehold, NJ.

Alex upgraded my CCII Niagara which I am very pleased with. While working on it, he sent me details of what he was working on and a short video with it operating with the cruise commander. I didn't get the chance to run into him last year at York, and I won't be there this April. It is my plan to upgrade two more engines yet, and hopefully me him at York in the fall(if time permits).
