I just opened up a vision line 2-10-10-2. # 6-11155. The on line instructions indicate that you use a 9 volt alkaline battery in the tender. Is this correct. I thought Lionel used rechargeable battery’s or YLB’s. This engine is about 10 years old.

I believe that Lionel had NO charging circuit,MTH does...joe
Alkaline battery is correct, but you can convert it to a YLB.
However, a tender battery is only necessary when you are running conventionally to prevent sound loss during direction changes.
Or, If are losing the sound over possible dead spots on your layout such as turnouts.
The battery in a Lionel engine is solely to prevent possible power loss to the tender. Unlike an MTH Loco where the battery is necessary for it to operate.

Lionel ONLY used primary batteries, aka alkaline batteries. They have no charging circuit to use rechargeable batteries. That's the reason I designed the YLB, to offer a permanent replacement for the alkaline battery.
For TMCC or early Legacy with the battery cable, use the YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement or for Legacy RS-Lite Boards with no battery cable, the YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement (RS-Lite).
Thank you . Ill order some from Hennings.
