Eerie, as I just purchased a few of his books on the New York Central and was enjoying them immensely. My sympathies to the family.
A fine gentleman and an valuable source of early brass information in my formative years of collecting in the TCA. He was always in the Blue Hall in the far corner opposite the original entry doors. Spent many an hour there in discussion with him. God Bless.
My condolences to Al's family and friends.
He will be long remembered as a top-notch modeler, author, and artist. Always looked forward to visiting with him at York and seeing his latest artwork or modeling project. His books are a favorite part of my train library.
Rest in peace, Al.
Jim
My condolences to his family. He was a great ambassador for the hobby.

My thought's and prayers go out to the family. Al was a fine person, artist, and book author. And above all his love for O Scale Trains. If it wasn't for Al, I would of never recieved my first 2 rail Big Boy 30 years ago. So I hope he is watching all the New York Central Hudson's and Niagara's go by. Best wishes to the family. Tom Elesh Sr. and Family.
God bless him1 his books are the holy bibles of my research book collection on the PRR. without his books, i would have never obtain the knowledge of the mightly PRR.. esp the motive power! I am Glad he made it to 88!
Never met the man, and I knew him only through his writings. But those writings were very influential for me and for the entire modeling community. I wish him the very best.
Toot the whistle for him tonite on the layout GUYZ.
My condolences to his family. I had bought most of his prints that were A No.1 in detail and accuracy. He was a Railroad Man.
God's best to Al's kids and family. He was a friend and someone you'd get a good conversation from at York, Medina or Columbus. Al was the real deal !
Have a few of his books on the NYC "Thoroughbreds and Later Power" two great references. My condolences to the family.
Let me add my condolences to his family. I have plenty of his books, most of them signed. I always enjoyed chatting with him at the end of the long table in the purple hall at York. Staufer's books were both entertaining and full of useful information. His
choice of photos was always on the mark, even if he included one of mine in Pennsy Power III.
