Hi all,

after a hiatus from collecting tinplate, I have decided to start over and I have picked out an Illini with a 3015 box cab. Could anyone tell me more about the Illini with the 3015? I cannot seem to find a lot of information about this particular set or loco, especially the version which has green frame coaches w/nickel journals. Any help and additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Is this the set you are referring to?

This is The Jeffersonian from 1927.

During that year the 3015 came on a long frame as pictured in the set above, or with a short frame as  pictured in the set below.

The frames and the trucks are different on the cars with this engine.

I purchased  both of these sets as being all original.  But who is to say for sure.

Both sets of trucks were available in 1927.

The Illini cars went through numerous changes during their cataloged run.

Alex,

The 3019, 3020, and the 3015 all use the same sheet metal body.  The 3019 was cataloged in 1923-1924. The 3020 was cataloged in 1922-1925.  The 3015 was cataloged in 1927.  I'm not sure that the 3015 was an upgrade of the 3019.  I guessing it was a way to use up the remaining large box cab bodies.  The 3019 is usually considered to be a 3020 without its leading and trailing trucks.

As to  your first question, I'm not sure that the door handles have been reproduced.  I have never seen any.

Greg
