There are three different Talking Stations, the 755, 755A and 799. The wiring diagram Russell posted above is correct for all three if the track power is AC. The 755 does not have the resistor that prevents the reverse unit from cycling so it will stop any conventionally powered engine. The other two have the resistor. However the resistor is not sized to stop engines with can motors such as any American Models engine or a Gilbert engine that has been repowered with a can motor, they will run right through the controlled sections of track.

The other possible issue is the contacts are not mating correctly with the rotating drum.

when you push the button to start the record you will hear a motor coming on if you let the button go to quickly the motor will just stop. that's because there is a cam mechanism and the cam motor has to run long enough for contact to make up so the record will start to play. the unit use a rotating drum mechanism to operate. ok

if when you push the red start but on your switch, on the  drum mechanism it will stop this is normal! one of the relays in the mechanism has a normally open swatch and that will be open until the drum mechanism runs long enough for the contact to change state! once that happens the drum mechanism will complete its cycle after  360  degree circle and then stop again until you push start button again!
