I have an American Flyer 22080 2 train transformer. My question is can someone positively confirm if the constant 16 volt sides are circuit breaker protected. I have one that both throttles the circuit breakers opens in a second or two, the way they are supposed to. However if I short out the base/16volt terminals, no circuit breaker action on either side. (or red light) Just major sparks and smoke. The transformer wiring does not look altered. The wiring is different than a 30B and 22090, so can anyone confirm there should be short circuit protection on this specific transformer?

A 22080 is the same as the 30B. The wiring diagram is on p24 of the Transformer section in the Factory Service Manual. The manual is on the myflyertrains.org website. Looking at the wiring diagram the circuit breakers are between the base post and the secondary winding so they protect both the fixed and variable outputs. Instructions for accessing the breakers are also in that section.
