? About the slot by the bell is it for a ringer. And between the front running lights centered on top is that piece cast or screwed to the front boiler plate. Thxs

The slot is for a mechanical arm to ring the bell. The boiler feed water heater is screwed to the location you pointed out.

I have a couple of examples of the 4695 and did considerable research before restoring one of them. I operate both of mine and they are great runners. The slot is generally ignored as unlike the electrics, only a few of the very earliest examples of the 4695 used a swinging bell. American Flyer did not eliminate the slot, even though it was no longer used.

Ive never looked for one.... If you can find one, the rod can be hand bent to match... Ive done this 3 times with great success.
