Amtrak Dash 9 truck locked up

If you remove the motor do the wheels exhibit the same certain-position lockup? Separating the motor from the truck may give you a better insight as to what's going on (most likely within the truck block)

I’m trying to figure out how to get the motor separated from the truck.

check to see if a traction tire is lodged between the wheels and the side frames of the trucks, also look and make sure there is no debris stuck in the gears.  I would start there before disassembling the entire engine.

Nothing like that on the outside of the truck.  

Keystone Bill.    I have same engine, about a month ago same thing happened  tabled it when I had time.  You made me look at underside.. yep 2 tires stuck in truck  put one on & removed other.  put on test track runs both ways .... thanks to you I'm not removing shell just fighting new tires.    Hope you find your issue    Rick

I had the same problem with a diesel engine.  There was something in the drive gears that was so small that I couldn’t see it.  I used the point of a toothpick between each gear tooth as I turned the flywheel.  Whatever it was, I got it out.  Problem solved!

Ron and Marty,  

I got the truck to separate from the motor the two small screws on the top one has the the wire to pick up power from the roller the other is next to it.  And the 2 on the under side.  Moving the trucks gears independently from the worm gear found a small spec of some debris on the large gear wedged in it.  Used my hobby knife to get it out of it.  So getting it lubed & assembled and I’ll let you know how the test run goes.
