So to match the many RI engines that we are producing, we thought - why not produce some passenger equipment as well!!
We have contracted with Atlas O to make these Rock Island sets using the same tooling that MTH once owned.
The sets we are making are as follows:
4-Pack: Combine, Coach, Diner, and Observation
2-Pack: Coach and Coach
Single: Baggage
Single: RPO
This is the baggage car we are making. Stamped markings will be "Railway Express Agency" #4119.
This is the RPO car we are fudging. Stamped markings will be "Railway Express Agency" on one end of the car and "US Mail / Railway Post Office" on the other end. Car #7018.
This is the Combine car we are making. Originally a wood sided car, upgraded to steel side in the late 1920's. Currently preserved at Mid-Continent Railway Museum. Stamped markings will be "Baggage" and #1094.
These are the Coaches we are making. This is how the cars will look (paint and lettering) as delivered. Granted the window panes will be different, but it is close enough for us. The above picture is an Atlas HO model that they produce several years ago. We think they got it right. Stamped markings will be #'s 2824 & 2827.
This is the blueprint of the Dining Car we are making. Couldn't find a real picture as of yet. Stamped markings will be "RI" on each end of the car, "Pullman" along the top, "Dining Car" and #8014 will be on the bottom centered below the window line.
This is the other coach we are making. See notes above on the HO coaches. Stamped markings will be #2853.
This is the Observation car we are making. Stamped markings will be #1903 on each end of the car. The drumhead will have the traditional RI Herald on it. See the logo at the top of this post.
Each car will be painted Pullman Green with black roofs and lettered from the factory using traditional pad-printing; "ROCK ISLAND" unless where noted.
