Dear Member HM15902-Alphonse Kolis,

Halloween is here! And heard today SNOW in the forecast. Stopped by our local home builders big box store and saw Christmas Trees. Can 2015 be far way? But before I wish my life away looking for Spring, I prefer to think of the positive scenes of us more seasoned members cleaning and tweaking our engines for another winter season and again seeing kids playing with trains. Yes, kids, some experiencing trains for the first time and some playing with trains of their own. What a great vision! Let's make a renewed effort to introduce a kid to trains. And do not forget to pioneer the train hobby with an interested friend.

Be sure to check out the club Christmas Car - 50% sold in first two weeks. Order now or risk missing this special car. Expected to be completely sold out by Thanksgiving.

Topics discussed in this issue:

Membership Renewals Due 1/1/2015 - renewal notices for members with a 1/1/2015 membership renewal date will receive electronic notices to renew on Saturday, November 1. I ask all members who receive this notice to renew as quickly as possible. Doing so will eliminate the need for our business office to make multiple renewal requests. If members renew when first approached, the club saves a lot of money, collectively in the thousands of dollars in reduced costs and a lot less work for our volunteers. Help the club and renew early. Early renewal helps the club save money to redirect to member benefits.

To Our LRRC Sourced Members (IMPORTANT!!!) - By now, you have received copies of our award winning publications "The Lion Roars" and the "Interchange Track". You will be receiving our December issue of "The Lion Roars" in early December. IMPORTANT NOTE - to continue to receive copies of "The Lion Roars" and the "Interchange Track" beyond December, you MUST renew by December 31.Lionel and the LCCA agreed that all new members from the LRRC would receive the 3 issues for October, November, and December as part of the transfer of membership. We encourage all members to renew, especially our newest members from the LRRC. You have had the opportunity to see what the LCCA is, what it represents, and how it serves its members and the hobby. You know we will continue our close relationship with Lionel. We are pleased you are an LCCA member and would like you to continue to enjoy what the club is, does, and represents. If you were an LRRC member and if your renewal date is later than 1/1/2015, this also applies to you. Individuals in this classification will be notified in a separate post.

Remember if you have any remaining questions, to look at the FAQ and other data on the LCCA website (www.lionelcollectors.org) and Link to FAQ . Remember, any question can be addressed tooffice@lionelcollectors.org.

To All LCCA Members - We have heard from a few of our members that they were sent introductory welcome letters as a result of their LRRC affiliation and have ended up with two LCCA member numbers. If you feel you have received a second membership to the LCCA in error as a result of your LRRC membership, please contact the business office (office@lionelcollectors.org) or Harry Hampson (hgh45@aol.com). Likewise if you receive two copies of this e-blast with two different LCCA member numbers, pls contact us and we will correct our database. Former members of the LCCA who joined us from the LRRC can get their former number back by contacting the business office.

2015 Boston Convention Update - I am confident the LCCA 45th annual convention will exceed even our successful and enjoyable Indy convention. Nominations and Elections - Remember nominations start in February. Not too early to start thinking about the elections.

In Closing - Halloween is here! Kids "trick or treating". Take time to enjoy all the Fall has to offer. Our club has grown larger with a number of LRRC members welcomed into the LCCA. We are one in support of our hobby, enjoying all things trains. To quote our constitution - "The purpose for which the Corshutterstock 636016poration (LCCA) is organized is to promote and foster interest, research, education and enjoyment of Lionel Trains from 1900 to the present in particular and by association, all toy trains in general." Take advantage of all that is good, enjoy your trains, hug your family, enjoy Halloween with a kid, and help kids enjoy trains.

I look forward to meeting with many of you in upcoming weeks and months.

About the LCCA

First and foremost, the best reason for being a member of the LCCA is to have FUN!  The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) has something of interest for the most serious toy train collector to the operators as well as the new entry level novice.

For those of you not familiar with the Lionel Collectors Club of America, the LCCA is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization with thousands of men, women and children who have an interest in Lionel trains. Founded in 1970 by Jim Gates of Perry IA, LCCA members live all around the world, but predominantly in the United States. The purpose of the club is to promote and foster an interest in Lionel trains specifically and toy trains in general and have fun while doing it. If you have an interest in Lionel Trains, this club is a fun organization to belong to. We provide our members with award winning publications, exclusive video productions, an outstanding Website www.lionelcollectors.org, and Facebook accounts (Both Regular Member RM and Junior Member JM)  as well as an opportunity to purchase limited edition  LCCA train products made by Lionel exclusively for our members.

Our Premier publication, "The Lion Roars" featuring all original articles written by our fellow members is mailed to your home 5 times a year. No matter what era of Lionel Trains or area of interest you have, this publication is well balanced. Our members share their personal stories and experience about the hobby, layouts, human interest stories, prewar, post war and modern toy trains, as well as articles intended for our Junior Members.  Everyone has one good personal story to tell about themselves and their trains. So we invite new LCCA members to share their story and submit your article for possible publication or listing on our website.

We also have a buy/sell/Swap toy train publication, "The Interchange Track" that our members receive 4 times a year in the mail. In addition, our members have private access to the E-track web based buy/sell/trade section in the Members Only Section of our website. Members can buy, sell and trade 24 hours/day, 7days/week, 365 days per year with thousands of members from all over the country.

For our Junior members, we have a club publication, The Lion Cub with articles written by kids and parents dedicated to topics of interest to our younger members.   This publication is a way for our junior members to share their train photos, stories and other train experiences  with other Junior Members and their families.   We are very proud of this publication and invite kids (with parental approval) to submit their artwork, photos and stories.

Our award winning website www.lionelcollectors.org is our best communication tool that keeps our members up to date with the most current club information. Frequent videos regarding toy related topics, news from Lionel and club business are posted regularly on this site. In our video gallery section of our website, we have posted hundreds of original and exclusive LCCA production video clips on YouTube.   Because of our close and special relationship with Lionel, we are able to video record  new Lionel products under development,  and share  them with our members and guests who visit our website throughout the entire year.   We have posted several video interviews with Lionel 's President Howard Hitchcock  on our website.  We recommend you designate  www.lionelcollectors.org as one of your favorite sites; so you can easily access the most current information regarding club news and announcements.

The LCCA host exciting and well attended annual toy train conventions in different cities all around the country every year in July. This past year we celebrated our 44 th annual convention at the Marriott East Hotel in Indianapolis IN July 20-26, 2014.   In 2015 the club will be going east to be in the Boston MA area. We will be at the Double Tree Hotel in Danvers MA July 20-25, 2015.    For specific information regarding our Indianapolis and Boston Convention;  go to our Convention Page in the club's website www.lionelcollectors.org

Lionel fully supports our annual conventions by bringing their operating toy train layouts and display.  Every year, Lionel representatives attend our Conventions, host a two hour Lionel Seminar, conduct interactive clinics and live demonstrations.   Our members have an opportunity to learn about upcoming product and Lionel's future plans during this seminar.  Lionel brought a team consisting of ten employees to our Indy convention.

We recognize that every member cannot attend our annual conventions every year, so the LCCA Board of Directors have created a Special  Events program with family oriented, fun, toy train related events being held in various cities all around the country throughout the year. This is part of LCCA President Dennis DeVito's plan to reach out and have direct contact with over 2300 LCCA members and families each year.  Lionel sends representatives to support many of these LCCA Special Events.  For more information about these fun filled, family oriented activities go to our special events page on our websitewww.lionelcollectors.org.

In 2012, a group of LCCA volunteer members worked closely with Lionel and developed a new national standard for the  Lionel/LCCA FasTrack Modular Railroad system.  This modular standard was developed jointly by Lionel, LCCA with input from other modular groups.  These new module sections are light weight, small enough to fit in the back seat of a mid-size automobile, yet can have large enough radius curved sections to run the largest and longest TMCC, Lionel Legacy line command controlled engines.  Everyone in the group can store their own module section, you won’t need make arrangements to rent a storage space or need a trailer to haul your layout to a train show.  The two piece 90 degree large radius curved sections (72” & 84&rdquo allow for various interesting layout configurations, from basic rectangular shape to  dog-bone, hexagonal, trapezoidal and allows for reversing sections.

For detailed information about this new LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad Standard, please visit our website www.lionecollectors.org and click on the “FasTrack Modular” tab for additional drop downs.

This new LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad standard is simple; yet offers elegant solutions to issues experienced by modular groups today.  The tables are connected quickly by roto-locks (rotating locking mechanisms), there is no need for C-clamps.  Lionel produces a template that is available for purchase in their catalog.  This template will ensure proper alignment of the tracks, roto-locks and the drill hole patterns.  If you use the template and follow the standards, people can build sections anywhere all around the world and when they come together in the same location, the sections will fit precisely and function properly.

We hope this new national LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad system will allow people who do not have enough space in their home to build their own layout, an option they can pursue to participate and enjoy running their Lionel trains with other people.  Building a LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad layout is a great group project and can be a lot of fun.

Groups all over the country are starting their own LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad Activity in cities all around the country.  For instance, The Kids Run Trans group led by LCCA member Russ Meir has built a new FasTrack Modular RR layout for usage in the Norfolk, Virginia Beach area.   LCCA Member David Bjorkman and the Eastern Carolina Railroaders have recently built a modular layout and are exhibiting it at various train shows and other events.    If you have any interest in starting your own Lionel/LCCA FasTrack Modular Railroad Layout, please contact me.   We welcome your participation and support of the hobby.  It is a great way to introduce Lionel trains to the next generation of train enthusiasts.

In addition, because of our special relationship with Lionel, we are able to provide our members with the opportunity to order and purchase, specially designed, limited edition, and collectible LCCA train products.  We are now taking orders on the 2014 LCCA/LRRC  Christmas boxcar.   If you want one, now is the time to order one.  Sales are limited to only 500 pieces.  Go to the club store section on your website www.lionelcollectors.org to place your order and get in time for Christmas.

In addition, we just recently announced that we are taking orders for a LCCA Boston and Main GP7 set consisting of a Lion Chief Plus Lionel engine, dummy engine unit and a smoking operating caboose.  Lionel will build to order, so if you have an interest, please make your deposit to reserve your set soon.  There will not be any extra sets made after we place the original order with Lionel.

Every year, we offer a unique, specially  designed Annual convention car produced by Lionel.  To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the great train chase of the Civil war, the LCCA commissioned Lionel to produce a pair of commemorative General steam locomotive engines and tenders.  In 2012 we introduced the Texas "Tommy" Special train set as well as a desirable Diamond mint car.   In 2013 we produced and sold Lionel Tinplate standard gauge train sets products as well as low priced O-gauge starter sets (Lou Caponi Coal Set).  Lionel  makes these limited edition, unique products exclusively for LCCA members.

In 2013, the LCCA tooled up and produced a new billboard frame and billboard set that is 100% Made in America.  This offering is completely made and assembled in the US, all the way from  the raw plastic resin, to tooling, molding, assembly and even the packaging.   For information regarding our most recent product offerings, go to the "LCCA store" section or product development section on our website.

Frequently, we offer our members discounted prices on certain select Lionel catalogued items.  In many cases, the savings achieved on the purchase of one train  item will exceed the cost of a one year  membership.   In essence, you can purchase a train and have a free one year  membership.

There are so many reasons and membership benefits for belonging to the Lionel Collectors Club of America.   We have three membership categories, Regular Member (RM), Electronic Member (EM)and Junior Member (JM) .  Regular Members are 18 years old and older, receive all of our club publications via US mail and are allowed to vote for our LCCA volunteer elections.  For those of you under the age of 18 years, we have a Junior Membership program.  Our JM's receive The Lion Cub publication dedicated to the interest of our younger members.    Electronic members are able to view digital versions of our club's publications in the password protected "Members Only" Section of our website.

We invite you to join the LCCA and hope you find the club to be worthwhile and fun for you.  If you have any questions or need more information please contact me at 248-709-4137 agkolis@comcast.net

LCCA Tour Aboard the Lionel Lines 726 Steam Locomotive aka NKP 765( video)

During the Lionel Collectors Club of America’s (LCCA) 44th Annual Convention in Indianapolis IN last July, 2014,  LCCA members had an opportunity to visit the Fort Wayne Historical Society yard and take a short train ride inside the cab along with Engineer Rich Melvin (OGR Publisher) aboard the famous NKP 765 Steam locomotive.  However for our Lionel collectors, we made special arrangements to modify the signage and ride aboard the Lionel Lines 726 Berkshire steam locomotive.   Our members really enjoyed that surprise!   Click on the video link below and catch a  Rich Melvin driving Lionel Lines 726 for our LCCA members enjoyment.
