Saw this on Ebay a few moments ago. New to me. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to it's actual existence ?

Appears to be a throttle control for a Gonkulator. I need one.

Looks like the controller for the power pack of the Lionel #8803 “workin on the railroad” set. I’ve seen this controller in the Santa Fe set. I believe these sets were dc only but I believe these engines may have been reissued as ac/dc compatible. That being said I may just have it confused with the Lionel #8300, which is a similar looking engine which is able to run on AC power.

The only known Gonkulator was destroyed by Coloniel Klink after Shultz discovered it. Must be something else! 😂
I agree with Liam. I had that exact set as a kid. There was a very similar one with I think an additional car and maybe another structure included as well.
Those engines (and therefore this throttle) are DC only. They will not work on conventional O Gauge transformers most of us use.
As to whether the engines were ever re-issued in a version that works on both AC and DC, that I have no idea.
But the item shown is definitely a DC controller (and needs the wall-wart power brick to feed it, shown in Liam's picture).
