While trying to solve my derailing problems I have "frozen" my z-1000 switch machine. The only way I can move the switch is to remove or disengage the switch machine. The in in the U shaped groove is stuck to one side and will not move. Suggestions?

Supposed to be the pin in the U shaped groove
can you take a picture and show us I'm sure someone here has had to repair one before!

Happens occasionally. If you have the motor connected just use the control button to free it up. Otherwise disconnect the power or ground wire.
One note though - make sure your wiring is correct. I have had cases where I wired incorrectly and the motor wanted to stay in one position only. You can push on the pin - if you get resistance to movement there is a wiring issue. This is similar to the 'fluttering ' issue. If you have non-derail wired make sure the two outside rails of the isolated track are not shorted somehow.

I may have had the wiring wrong but..... It is now not powered and removed from the switch and still won't move. Can one remove the back of the dz-1000? I am thinking this a mechanical problem.
I have had a couple of DZ 1000s lock up mechanically.
They were jammed up internally in the actuator box.
There is a screw on the bottom and they will come apart.
( With a little luck, you can even get them back together )
