Now that AtlasO has (finally!!) started to ship some 3-rail switches again, has anyone here on the Forum purchased any of them?  More specifically, has anyone put them into service on their layouts yet?  If so, what are your thoughts?

Supposedly Atlas was planning to make some design/production changes on this latest run of switches to address some of the well-documented operational issues on the prior versions.

I realize I may be asking this a bit too soon seeing how these switches have started to arrive just recently.  I will be planning/building a new layout in the near future and still haven't made a decision on track and switches.

PLEASE don't turn this into a "which company makes better switches" thread.  I would really like to hear only about members' experiences with the "new" Atlas offerings...thanks!

I have not yet purchased any of the new switches, but my LHS does have them back in stock now. I will try to examine one next week. What I can say about Atlas switches is that the ones I have purchased new in the last few (5 or so) years do not have any issues, they work just fine and I have had no problems with them at all.

Although I did not re-enter the hobby until about 5 years ago, from what I have read about the Atlas switches, I really believe most of the issues with these switches were addressed long ago, when problems were discovered. I have some older switches I purchased used (due to lack of availability), and there are some definite differences between the ones I have purchased new and the older used ones so I know some improvements have already been made, but I do not know the timeline. And FWIW, I have also decided that buying used switches is probably not worth it.

Joe - i just picked up about 8 of the new O54 turnouts yesterday, however they have not been installed on my new section as of yet. These have corrections to them per past issues.

I myself like Atlas the trains run real well on them. I weathered my current track 3 yrs ago when starting out and they look really good.

Al, hopefully you will post your thoughts/comments after you install and then use them for a while on your layout!
