I saw that MTH has just shipped their Greenbriers at the end of January. Stockyard Express has one of them. Let me know when they arrive. If so, please show some videos & photos of them.

I found a video of one yesterday:
Our local hobby shop, Berwyn's Toys & Trains, (Berwyn, IL) had a new one on the shelf, this past Saturday.
I have one.
I picked up 2 of mine on Friday - the Greenbrier Express and the "614T" from the ACE 3000 test runs in 1985. Might get some Lionscale Chessie hoppers to go with 614T.
Did anyone get the one greenbrier not numbered 614 - the catalog showed it being #602 which is incorrect as the C&O J3a class was #610-614. The 602 would be a J3 which there are many differences to the J3a class.
Sunset models made an excellent brass representation (IMO) of the J3 in 2007 with numbers 600-604 available, as well as J3a's 612 & 614.

They did - Item #20-3277-1 from the 2007 Volume 1 catalog. The book shows #610 however the actual number produced was 613 complete with removable smoke deflectors. I saw one listed on eBay awhile back but passed it up - they are somewhat rare though, guess I should have gone after it but I think I am finally at that "too many trains" stage in life.
Mr. Muffin has one and shared this photo from the August 30, 2013 weekend photo fun - no smoke deflectors installed for the photo though (I am reposting that photo here, not my pic). Scott if you still have this one think you can share a pic with the deflectors on for us??
I believe 613 and 1 of the L2a Hudson were the only 2 equipped with Delfectors on the C&O, and if I heard the story right they were removed after 613 was involved in grade crossing accident and the engineer couldn't see the vehicle stuck on the tracks in time?

Ah, the C&O poppet-valve L2a Hudson; heaviest ever built, I do believe.
If offered, I'd order in a heartbeat. Nobody has. I think 3rd rail announced one years ago, but by the time I was aware of it, it was cancelled - so no order from me.
I really don't understand it. Lionel produced the C&O F-19 Pacific (far less interesting loco) years ago, and also the streamlined L1 "Yellowbelly" Hudson, but the L2a's - no. Huh. (Don't make me cut up a Greenbrier to make one...)
You know what is sad about this post? Neither MTH or the dealers are posting as to what is shipping like they used to. The shipping updates stopped with the creation of the manufacturers forum. But MTH is not active there. So us hobbyists are in the dark as to what is being released.
Do my ears deceive me or does that chuffing sound much more robust than what we're used to hearing from PS3?
Does anybody have any photos to share? I'd like to see all of them.
Peter, here you go. It really is a great engine. There is only one thing that bothered me but I fixed it. Its a typical problem (for me) on most engines. See if you can tell. Rich.

I did! I lowered it almost 1/4 inch and filled the gap at the top of the ladders. Not great work but not that noticeable especially if I hadn't mentioned it. What is much more noticeable IMO is the large gap between the pilot and rails. The design of the pilot mount made lowering it is easy. I removed the two screws, added shims and used longer screws to reattach. Extending the ladder was the harder part, but still fairly easy, just cutting, shaping, gluing and painting some plastic.

Rich, did you replace the pilot wheels with Scale wheels? I don't believe this engine had an option to order with scale wheels like MTH.

That IS an MTH model. However, I don't know whether it was available as a 2-Rail SCALE model with SCALE wheels.

M.J. I does look great. They did not offer this in 2-rail and I did not convert the wheels, just lowered the pilot.
The lowered pilot really improves the look of the engine, much closer to the prototype. Nice work, Rich!
Did you extend the ladders at the top or at the bottom (i.e., are the ladders attached to the pilot deck or to the underside of the running board)?

To be clear, Sunset/3rd Rail has ANNOUNCED a model of the ACE 3000, and is currently taking/seeking sufficient reservations/orders to move the project into the design stage, and THEN production. In other words, not enough reservations/orders, then no ACE 3000 models.
Now that the PS1 614s will be "flooding" the secondary market, seriously think about buying one for under 500 bucks and then sending it to GunRunner John or Alex M for a TMCC and Super Chuffer install.

I got mine out of the box for a few quick photos tonight - sorry no time for a run or videos. Might get JDS to modify the headlight so it's a twin sealed beam which 614T would have had in 1985, and perhaps modify the pilot like Rich did with his. Now do I get a Chessie System ACE 3000 to go with it???

Anyone have any photos of the Greenbrier Presidential Express engine? I am curious what it looks like in the Green Paint Scheme. I have looked for photos and videos online but have not seen any.
