DONTANO,

I said this before to other people who are still running 022, Lionel Conventional Tubular Switches, unless you are just wanting to play around learning how to fully restore 022 switches, use the broken 022 switch for parts and pick up one of the many millions of 022 Lionel Switch, that happen to be in good working order, at just about any train show. Then simply switch out the broken the 022 switch with another good 022 switch, getting your layout back up and running.  If you are concerned pick up a couple pair of the old 022 switches, just to have them, the labor for fixing them is actually more than the cost of purchasing them.  Now if your particular 022 switch was handed down thru the family and it means something special to you, that is a different matter, I have a few 711's that fall into that category myself.

First take the solenoid and switch control off the switch base, then if I remember correctly there are several screws to take the under plate off on the bottom of the switch. There might be a large screw to take out and the frog comes out from the top once the screw underneath is removed. Take a few photos if you are not sure how the switch goes back together.

Most of the time a post war 022 switch can be fixed, may take some time to do it. The only time I could not fix an 022 was when the switch lantern piece was broken.
