This may be a dumb question or I might be doing something wrong but I am more used to working on conventional trains and I don't know too much about how protosound works.

I have a protosound 3 MTH R142a subway set and the set works fine otherwise except whenever I try to switch the train to the trolley mode (click on MTC and then any of the modes in that menu in DCS) the powered unit shuts down and stops responding to my DCS. I have to power down the track and when I put the power back on the engine comes back up but the trolley mode never works. Also sometimes when I try the trolley mode the rear coupler opens. This is so weird I never had an issue like this before. It's just a shame because the coolest feature of the subway set is the automatic stops.

Has anyone had this issue before? I think it may be the PS3 board and if so is it possible to replace that part?

Thanks for your help,

I've used trolley mode extensively and have never encountered the symptoms that you describe. However, I wouldn't suspect that the problem is hardware-related. It sounds more like a software issue.

I'd suggest you do the following:

  • Call MTH to determine if there's been an update to the sound or chain. files.
  • Regardless, reload the R142's chain file and sound file from the MTH web page for the engine. If there's an error in the either file, it's most likely been corrected in an update.

Instructions for updating PS3 engine files may be found in The DCS Companion 3rd Edition on pages 146-148.

DCS Book CoverThis and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
