Found this in a 132 train station.  Anyone know what it does?  Looks like 4 transformer plates with the rectifier disc on them.  Looks like batteries must have set between them and one leaked.  What are the devices at the bottom, and what would this do?  The screws look like set screw for making electrical contact.  Any help appreciated.  G

Possibly an external whistle control made for a display layout? Looks like 4 rectifier discs and some relays at the bottom. The one device I can see at the bottom looks like a relay controlled fast acting 2 pole switch that would be needed for an external whistle control. Over the years I have come across some odd items made to enhance display operation. Since I never saw an item more than once I assume they were not made by the factory. Maybe a sharp service station tech with time on his hands?

It depends on what the source input voltage was. If it was A.C., then the 4 rectifier discs look curiously like a full wave bridge rectifier. If the input was D.C., say batteries, and those items on the bottom are relays, then you could be looking at a very primitive inverter to make low voltage A.C.

Need a good close-up of the unit, especially the items on the bottom.

Interesting point Larry, if we ask what was the thing doing in the station in the first place then what Gary said about blowing a whistle or horn sounds like a winner.

From the why is it there outlook my vibrator makes little sense. Who would put such a device in the station and for what purpose, to make the people move on the platform?

In any case G could you post better pictures of it from all sides?
