Anyone remember some years ago, there was a poster on the forum who would pose his hobo figure "Harold" as if he was walking around on his layout?  As I recall, it was a very nicely done layout and I very much enjoyed his postings.  The postings came to mind last night when I was trying to sleep.

Does anyone remember who it was?  I tried doing a search but came up with no results that resembled his postings.

Thanks,

Don

Ray, thank you for responding and reposting one of your videos.  Your layout and the video as well as the song are every bit a fabulous as I remember.  The details on your layout are absolutely gorgeous.  I am glad  to see you and your layout still doing well.

I hope you will continue to share more of Hobo Harold's adventures.

Congratulations on your retirement.

Happy railroading,

Don

Cool concept. Music, social aspects, photography... it could be all over the place yet nicely grounded by him.

Maybe Harold could travel to other layouts too; it's not like either of you are glued in place.

Remember the re-mailed/traveling box cars 😁  (at least replacing Harold with a new Harold would be cheaper than an unreturned car

I'll have to check this out later, a bit busy at work this morning. Funny, my grandfather never mentioned being a hobo and didn't travel the rails. Now, my paternal grandfather, he worked for the pipeline for some time in his life and traveled all over the country I think in the early 19 teens into the 1920's, I'd have to ask my sister or my aunt to get exact timeline. Oh what steam those eyes saw I would to have loved to heard.

Dave, would like to go back in time for just a little while.

Yeah, me too. I was not even 2 when my paternal grandfather passed away, and have no memories like my siblings have of him. I did however get a great opportunity before my sister got married to talk with my late brother in laws' Uncle Frank. Now there was a great man who had very great stories, and was well versed and could talk to anyone about anything. He was in the Navy just after WWI and worked in some sort of factory with Hoppers that would mix things(and industrial accidents he told me about). I think about how some of us model buildings and largely you never see inside. I wonder what I would do if I were modelling a factory and it's inner workings, not sure if I would want my workers anywhere near or on top the Hoppers where they might fall.

Maybe this is why Harold is out walking?

Thanks for liking this video, I got the idea for this after seeing Harold's twin brother on Norm Charbonneau's layout and was very impressed.

Mitch, Harold will only travel by boxcar, maybe he could find that traveling boxcar but it seems as though he would rather walk.

I have to say that was one of the saddest songs I have ever heard.Reminds me of they found a man froze to death. In the rail yard in my home town. There was a abc store next to the tracks.Guess he thought hard drink will keep him warm. But at a 6 degress and the wind blowing 20 to 24 mph.
