Showed some neat features.

pretty cool features!
Can't wait! My grandpa has the GS-4 4449 on order!
Nice to see that they are innovating and improving. I’m not a big SP fan but that new cylinder steam effect is pretty cool. I might have to save up for a VL engine.
What, no 5 chuff option? Nice to hear they brought back the original "prototype" sp 4449 whistle from the first Legacy GS4.
The new features that Dave showed were pretty interesting and innovative. Lionel has not been sitting on their handS but enriching the Legacy system with new and interesting features for sure! I appreciated Dave giving the kudos to his team.

I sense bitterness Rick.
Yep saw it. Get a razor Dave!
Nice that 2020 Legacy on fixed the whistle steam goes when Horn blown, too bade wheel slip died.

Super cool features and nice to see Dave acting professional. Not a locomotive I would want to try to get repaired when the warranty runs out. You are on your own when the warranty runs out. Parts (boards) availability and finding a tech without a super long waiting list may be a challenge. Again super cool if it all works.

I agree on the repair concern. One thing Lionel needs to do is assure the consumer that these will not become paperweights after the warranty runs out AND there is a competent repair network and sufficient supply of parts to do the repairs when the warranty period is over and Lionel no longer will work on them.
Well, I have better luck getting Lionel parts than MTH parts, but I agree with the repair concern. Lots of new stuff to break on these.
First off, nice work Dave. Thats an impressive piece of engineering.
As for future repairs, put lack of parts as the major concern now. Even the repair guys can't fix them if they can't get parts. Anyone who has purchased an engine in the last year should checkout Lionel's parts site and see what parts they have to repair your engine. I know there are still zero mechanical parts for the J3a Hudsons and they have been out for nearly a year.

I’m glad to see Lionel is finally adding features that the DCC market had offered for sometime now. Dyno-Lighting effect is a standard operation on all DCC Sound Decoders.
Now only if they let us manipulate those boards at home....then it be Lionel “DCC”

I was impressed by what I saw of trains in this video - but then I am hoping to be, as I have a GS-5 on pre-order.
The parts situation, however, is no small concern, as I sense Lionel might have gone over to maintaining a minimal inventory of parts, in particular where they are specific to certain high end engines. Dave's commentary reminded me that there are almost Heinz 57 varieties of the GS series.

That's not gonna happen.
We have plenty of parts for all new products. If they're not on the website, then you have to call in to get them is all.

It didn't die. Just couldn't be used in this engine. Will certainly be used again.
Hey Dave, are the B6sb locos still coming out soon?
Thanks Dave you brought a smile to my face! (and it's visible - no beard) LOL

It's really too BAD I can't spell! Looks like I typed "bade" in my previous post.
When wheel slip comes back I'm going to call it a re-birth...
Thanks for the demo on the different whistle/horn/bells - first video of it I've seen.

That's good news, any reason they're not on the website? Obviously, we find it more convenient and less error-prone to order electronically.

That’s great news Dave. Enjoyed the presentation.

Jini5,
After the warranty runs out I am sure guys like Alex M and GRJ will have learned how to fix all of these new features. Alex is my guy for Legacy repairs lucky for me I have had no recent issues. Last time I talked to him he had plenty of business.

I agree but there are folks all over the country that would benefit from an Alex or GRJ closer to home. It would be great if Lionel was able to offer the repair classes again. Perhaps set the requirements higher for attending and training. There are a lot of good repair guys out there but a lot are being left behind by the advanced technology.

Dave, Why hasn't the parts list and diagrams gone up for engines like the J3 Hudson? Covid-19?

Marty,
That is true I used to live in Pennsylvania now I reside in Maryland. Alex used to be about a 1 hour 15 minute drive for me which was worth it but I would still do a 4-5 hour trip to bring repairs to him. In fact I have done it already,
Also I am sure Alex and GRJ are on a first name basis with their UPS, FedEx etc drivers so I would not use distance as a reason not to buy or get a engine repaired. The way I found Alex was by reading the forum. You can check their location or email them if needed. I do agree with updating your repair training if thats your trade of choice.

I assume once the restrictions on folks being in the office Dave will get some help to produce these. Being the camera guy, audioman, etc. while trying to demonstrate something can be a challenge. I really enjoyed this presentation and thought for Dave being solo he covered all of the features and got his points addressed. I am looking forward to more of these type videos.
The headlight ramping up is really cool. Looking forward to these features trickling down.
Well I have to say I am impressed with the new features that the new Visionline has to offer. Lionel has done an excellent job on this engine. However, I am concerned with the sound file they chose for the 4449’s whistle. I can tell they are recycling the whistle from the #4436 (released in 2008). It is not 100% accurate which is disappointing, considering it’s a $2,000 engine. I hope Lionel is still working on the whistles so they can correct this.
I do like the alternating cylinder steam effect. I'm actually curious to see the mechanical aspects of the system.

@Dave Olson could comment?

Whatever you do, Lionel, don't give any of the parts to North Lima Train Works!
Enjoyed the show, Dave, although once again your magnetic stage presence overpowered the presentation. It's what it would be like watching Richard Burton explaining the improved cleaning power of Tide.
That cylinder steam effect is really awesome. Well done Dave! That is something to be very proud of. Of all the new features Lionel has added to locs the top three have to be...
1. Whistle Steam
2. Swinging Bell
3. Cylinder steam
Any engine sporting all 3 of those features has got to be a winner!
