I almost purchased an engine with road number 101. I have been using the last two numbers to notate its calling on Cab-1 TMCC. I have a engine "1" on my TMCC. Would engine number "1" and engine number "01" the same or different?

"1" and "01" are the same in TMCC.
so give it a different number (just be sure to write it down, we put a sticker on the bottom of the engine).
just like you can no longer use 99 in legacy.

I use the last 2 digits too, and always enter the 0. If I have duplicate numbered engines I put white electrical tape on TOP of the cab, with the new number, so I can see it.
BTW 00 is also valid.
I use the last two numbers also but I don't use leading zeros. Engine 101 would be engine 11 in TMCC on my layout. Engine 2000 is engine 20, etc. I reserve numbers 1 through 9 for engine consists (lash-ups) in TMCC.

Yep, kind of a trick question. Some guys use the first two digits of the cab number, some use the last two. Then there are the sharp guys like you who ask the REAL question - TMCC number on an MTH loco???
