How about an on and off LCCA member?  I was a member and at the 1975 Convention.

If so, I'd like to ask an LCCA member or members this-

The TCA 2009 Lionel Standard O Convention Car did not have "Blt by Lionel" on it.  Standard O cars are supposed to represent scale cars.  How opposed would LCCA members be if the "Blt by Lionel" was removed from some Standard O equipment, perhaps as a special Standard O line of cars?

Has the LCCA ever done anything like this?

BTW I have very high regard for the LCCA, so there is nothing negative nor does this have any negative implications with regard to the LCCA.  Also, I would insist on the "Blt by" to be on any conventional Lionel piece.  This is about Lionel enhancing the scale value of the scale cars they produce.

Here is the TCA 2009 Standard O reefer (if you pop it out you can see the lettering clearly and there is no "Blt by Lionel"):

ALL the accessories are currently at LIONEL and will get built. CHINA, OH THAT DARN CHINA JUST TAKES SO LONG TO GIVE QUOTES. Then it's off to other Lionel vendors to find better costing or look for better quality control. It is a very long and PAINFUL process.

thanks

IN case you havent noticed we have been putting LCCA under the cars but not blt. by LIONEL. I suppose i could try and request it for 2013.

thanks

C'mon, Lou.  You do a GREAT job of keeping folks informed on the status of LCCA projects.  There's not much more to say other than keep up the good work.

Guys that have ordered LCCA projects have little to do but wait for delivery.

Too much chatter usually results in eventual China, Lionel or even LCCA bashing.

By the way, I'm also eagerly waiting to see what the S/Flyer project will be.

Rusty

Give these guys a break, we discuss Lionel and it's not a Lionel forum, we discuss MTH and it's not a MTH. Forum. If your not interested don't read or post, pretty simple.

I like to hear from Lou to hear what is going on with the Lcca and their products, after all it's about trains and that is what this forum is about. Also being a Lcca member I really enjoy it.

Lou, thanks for the reply.  In an earlier post you asked what the LCCA could do, I thought you were already doing great.  I was unaware of the Standard O w/o the "built by".

I will join again just to get those cars.  You do have a great organization.

It has nothing to do with your post, but I did start a topic about the FasTrack Module System. It even has pretty pictures. It is certainly LCCA related. Not much of a response so far.

LCCA related topic

TTOS is still around. They just completed the 2012 national convention in Santa Clara last month. Work is well underway for the 2013 convention. As I understand it, it will be a joint convention with TTOS & LOTS.

Thank you for the link to the modular specifications. The following is a quote from the web page:

quote:
The LCCA is proud to be working with Lionel on this project. While this is an "open architecture" design and available for anyone to use, Lionel will offer multiple kit options for general use. If you do attempt to construct your own module, be advised the required dimensional tolerances on either curve module might be a challenge for novice modular builders.  Participants are encouraged to apply a sealer to the top surface of the module, but this is not a requirement.

I think this bodes ill for the effort.

IMHO, discouraging people from building the modules themselves, and pushing them towards purchasing a kit from Lionel (sure to be expensive), is going to kill a lot of interest.

I don't see anything in the statement that say someone HAS to puchase a kit from Lionel.  All it says is "required dimensional tolerance on either curve module might be a challenge for novice..."

A modular system has to set standards and they need to be adhered to to be successful.  I've observed several groups in other scales over the years where they play it fast and loose with standards and they spend more time troubleshooting than running trains.

I guess that is true.  But key is the fact that they do have a reasonable number of participants.

I have participated in the Tinplate Trackers modular system, and my older son built several N-trak modules and participated in the local club. His first module didn't come out that well, but the local guys encouraged him, and put them in their public set-ups. His third module, which is the only one he still has, came out great.
Along the way he picked up some valuable carpentry skills.

Hi Lou, sorry it took me so long to post an answer but some dumb-*** parked his truck on top of my rock.

In  any case, are you going to have any items at York for us to see? Also, how about an LCCA Hump-Yard accessory. I know you have been bouncing it around in your head for years now, so what do you think, can it be done?

I seem to recall LCCA was going to post a video of a question and answer session with Jerry Calabrese from the Norfolk convention. What is the status of the video? I haven't heard any news about the Q & A.

Our volunteers are still working on the Jerry Caabrese video interview.   Stay tuned to our website www.lionelcollectors.org

Since neither you or Lou commented on my idea about creating the FasTrack modules in RR-Track, and my separate topic only received one reply, it sounds like there is not enough interest in making it happen.

Neither Lou or I are on the modular committe.  One member of our team  tried version 5 of RR-Track with its new  module feature, but was not able to duplicate the corner modules and have them connect properly.  Our team memer e-mailed the person   who wrote the program, but we did not hear back - and that was months ago. We will try to

get back in touch with him again and send him details of the modules
sizes. Perhaps he might add a library to his program.

Our volunteers have tried and will continue to try, but we all have other real jobs in addition to our volunteer positions.  thank you for your patience and understanding.
