Just wondering if the lionel 2015 cataloged 82029 and 82030 culvert loader and unloaders have been trouble free.

They can be tuned to work pretty well. I had to do some tweaking to get mine to work about 99% of the time, occasionally it still drops a culvert.
I had purchased the newer versions of both the culvert loader and unloader back in the late '90s. They were so frustrating that i eventually got rid of them. Recently i purchased post was versions of the same two accessories. With a bit of TLC I got them both working perfectly.
Sometimes it's foolhardy to try to reinvent the wheel. One of the changes Lionel made to the culvert unloader was to the area where the culvert pipe disengages from the lifting magnet. The swinging gates are not nearly as reliable as the stationary gate on the post-war version.
I recall seeing a video on Youtube, I think, of the many adjustments one fellow was trying to make on the modern culvert unloader to get it to work some of the time.
