I have most the mountain type steam locomotives because over the years become to like SAL RR.Which run through my home town.In fact it had a roundhouse but by the time I came into this world it was gone. There was some old boxcars that had the SAL herald.I started reading books about trains. In a book called younder comes the train. This book pretty much covered the usarr.Anyway I saw a map and looked and there it was my home town monroe n.c.This book had pictures of SALsteam locomotives I really liked the m2 mountain type.So I now have 4 mountain locomotives.Next is the berkshire type I have 5 locomotives.I have 1 hudson type mil.I mike type.4 northerns for freight or passengers trains. The sad part is its really hard to get decales for SAL.Despite that is was one of the biggest railroad in the south.I find this to be just plain odd.

Decals shouldn't be an issue anymore-a forum sponsor will make anything you want and the reviews have been positive on the quality.  You can also print your own, just buy the decal film and follow the directions.

As for locomotives, I'm into Challengers.  I have a LOT of them.  Always liked the Challengers, the Fetter's is my favorite. Coal or oil, it doesn't matter to me, I like'em all!

Being a big Pennsy fan I have a number of Pennsy Steam Engines.

A-5 -- 4-4-0

D class -- 4-4-0

E6 -- 4-4-2

G5 -- 4-6-0

H3 -- 2-8-0

H10 -- 2-8-0

J1 -- 2-10-4

2-K4s -- 4-6-2

M1 -- 4-8-2

S1 -- 6-4-4-6

T1 -- 4-4-4-4

Non-Pennsy

As you can see the only duplicates are the two 4-8-4 Northerns, (Chessie T-1 and N&W J). and the two Pennsy K4s. The 2 K4s are because I want to be able to double head them on my passenger trains like the Pennsy often did. I am also on the look out for a couple of I1 Decapods (2-10-0) to double head my Pennsy freight.

Collecting examples of N&W steamers. Currently I have "most" of what has been made available. I am mulling over the Timken side rod A and Y3. Both are in the "maybe" category.

Two gaps currently are the S1a 0-8-0 and Z1b 2-6-6-2. I never thought I'd ever get a Jawn Henry, so there is still hope....

This is an easy one, the Berkshire. It was my first model train received as a Christmas present when I was seven. Lionel Legacy Berkshires are also a compelling reason to collect them because of their great looks, sound, and wonderful performance. Also two of ours' are ties to our new PE layout.

For me it is the Hudson type. As you can tell from my handle it is one of my favorite locomotives. I have 2 of them now (one regular and a Dreyfuss) and a 3rd on order. The 3rd one has a PT tender so it is a little different. In the future I'd like to get one more-- a B&A version. All my other steam locomotives I have one of each kind. I probably will get another Camelback someday when MTH reruns it in PS3.

Like Dave C I am trying to build a fleet. The roads I am use are NYC of course and CNJ. I have 3 Pennsy locomotives but I don't plan on buying any more. Two out of three are my favorite Pennsy engines and third, well that's a long story. Recently I splurged on a SP Daylight. I just always wanted one of them even though it doesn't really go with my plan.

What I plan to use the most are shortline engines, and have the most of....2-6-0,

4-6-0, 2-8-0, 2-10-0, and 2-8-2, and switchers: 0-8-0, 0-4-0T, and 0-6-0T.  I prefer steam freight engines. The Challenger will just sit on a dead siding as a "helper on call" at the mainline junction (only a few feet of "mainline" is modeled).  I WANT SMALL two truck geared loggers, Heislers preferred, and a small eight-drivered logging articulated, which would be used.

While I don't like Pacifics (once done to death), one as used in passenger service

on that connecting mainline may also sit at the mainline station.  (the fact that the Little River Logging Co. once used a small Pacific in logging creates a personal conflict) That and a couple of other wheel arrangements are avoided for the same reason (over-saturation, and the fact they were not commonly used in the modeled area). That does not count "collector" engines which came as they were made, often in

oddball wheel arrangements, and includes diesels, not used on the layout.

soon will be getting another 0-4-0,2-6-2,and 6-8-6

Hence, your forum name!

Myself, I have more 2-4-2 than anything because they were the most affordable as I started out.  The 2-8-0 is my favorite though.

I railroad I model only had ten-wheelers at the time my layout takes place. So, I have four of them (even though only three existed in the timeframe my layout takes place, I'm going with an alternate reality where they never sold one of them to the White Pass & Yukon like they really had)...

I'm not going to catalog all of the steam locomotives I have because like others, I too am all over the place with various types of steam engines.  Suffice it to say I have seven scale Hudsons and that is by far the largest number of any single type of locomotive I own.  It really is kind of scary because there was a time when I never thought I would own even one.

I think that I am Lionel-heavy in steamers......

All I can say is thank for all the replys.I run mostly freight trains on my layouts. Why because thats what I saw as a boy.The school I attended was at best a few yards from the tracks.Every time I would hear a whistle I look out the window. The was not to to cool with my teachers thou. But some times when I try not to look out the window.Funny thing is some times they would let me look.I over heard them talking about me one day."Well at least he trying to do his work and not to look so much."I bet the trains I have on the layout is missing one thing. And that is pulpwood car as seaboard had lot of them.Funny its the one car I don,t have yet. When operating my steam locomotives they will some time slip a little. But I have gotten pretty good about not letting the wheels slip to much.
