Gentlemen,

This time I'm looking at an Atlas GP60,Item #2264. It's new never run & was bought from a previous owner to be displayed only.

Asking price $480 which is rich for my budget. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the knowledge collected over the last 17 months, the Atlas diesels pale in comparison in features, such as sound, compaired to an MTH GP38-2. The MSRP is less than this new,but maybe these diesels rise in value like gold?

Thank you all in advance for your replies.

Alan..some of these in the video are MTH GP's except Atlas hi nose at the end of the video.

I paid 275.00 for the hi nose with TMCC but converted to ps3.the loco you are looking at a little to pricey.

HI Alan,

Atlas O did a real nice job on the GP60 but the part number you provided, #2264,  is for a DC-only locomotive so comparing it to an MTH GP38-2 with DCC/sound is not really an apples-to-apples comparison since this engine has no sound or DCC - you would have to add it and that might run close to $200 (just for parts) if you go with a Protocraft Super Tsunami Or QSI EMD 710 Prime mover sound decoder along with an Atlas replacement speaker.  However, in my opinon, you would end up with much better sound going the 3rd party route than staying with the stock sound from either MTH or Atlas.  Detail-wise and running quality is probably about the same as a comparable MTH model.

One thing to note on the alternate Atlas O GP60 Gold-series equipped with DCC/QSI sound locomotives (if you want to go that route) is that Atlas screwed up the sound and used a sound file for a normally aspirated EMD 645, ironically the same sound as you find in a GP38-2 .
