My wife and I made a trip to Mercer Junction this afternoon in Mercer, PA to pick up my latest order that just arrived. I am talking about the new Atlas O coil cars. Wow, are these cars nice great paint job and fine detail. Each cars comes with two bulkheads and four coils, two large coils and two smaller coils. These cars are spot on to there full size counterpart. I run a overhead crane in a steel mill for a living and load these type of cars on a daily basis Atlas O is right on with these cars.  I was able to get one of each roadname, if finances allowed I would have doubled up on the CSX & NS paint schemes as there are four roadnumbers per roadname 24 cars in all, plus there is even a undecorated version available. My only complaint is this, there are only two bulkheads per car my opinion there should have been four as these are prototypically loaded with a bulkhead between each coil and at the end. Perhaps Atlas O will offer additional bulkheads in the future for sale. Also some extra coils would be nice to be able to buy. The extra bulkheads would also look good laying around your car repair facitily as extras. Very happy with the cars and always a pleasure to do business with Dave. I absolutely love this train store, I know I have said it before but the store gets better and better every time I visit. Anybody looking for these cars Dave has some left in stock at this time and probably the best price you will find. Very pleased with the cars and visit!! Thanks Dave

Jeff, no kidding?   Great photos and very nice cars!

Back in the 70's I was a crane hook-up boy at the end of a tin plate line at Weirton Steel.  I am very interested in overhead cranes.  Could you send me e-mail (in my profile)?

Thanks,

George

I always applaud new items and this looks like an interesting model.

As I read the Atlas write-up on their site, I had to wonder why modern road names were chosen for a car that appeared back to the 1960’s.

Are these a later version or class?

I also wonder if sales will ever be enough to recover the tooling costs on a car like this. Not everyone will buy one I would expect.

At least Atlas has put forth the effort and risk in providing us some variety.

I hope it does well so other models can be produced.
