In my quest to convert an Atlas O Bangor & Aroostook GP-9 to a NC&St.L GP-7, I've come to the issue of replacing the head lights. We all know the parts section on Atlas's website is quite challenging to decipher, due to a lack of pictures. Under the GP-9 Spare Parts list, it lists Head Light Cover #1, #2, #3. Does anybody know which one is which?

Also, what all parts do I need to add an additional head light?

And I know this is off subject, but has anybody ever stripped the paint off an Atlas O engine shell? Have a tips?

Thanks for all your help guys!

Ben, don't the NC&StL geeps have a Mars light as well as headlight?

I have added a Mars light housing to a geep using the Red Caboose parts trees off the internet. These include all three types of headlight mounings. If you are using a Mars headlight and a headlight mounting, as you can see in the photos you probably have, the thickest mount is the Mars housing, goes on top, and the thinest is the standard mount, goes just below.. I think the one in between is for a stardard low nose with a Mars light in the upper number boards area and a standard that would be in the low nose.

I added LEDs whichwork well in these casings.

I don't know if that is clear what I said, but using photos should help. Again, the Red Caboose Parts trees are often available on Ebay and have all you need to super detail a geep shell.  I will try and post some images of what I did when I get a chance, Dan

Hey, Ben.

I found this stuff called super clean, and while I have mostly brass models, the bottle sez it will work well on plastics.

I would definitely find a piece of scrap plastic that you don't mind destroying to test the stripper to make sure you are happy with the end result before using any paint stripper, regardless of who recommends it.

(An Atlas boxcar usually works well for this purpose, since they use the same type of plastic as you're going to find in your locomotive.)

Hope this helps.

Wow, those GP7s look really weird riding on those switcher trucks...

I spy with my little eye... ALCO trucks...
