I'm building my "oilfield" scene. Got my Jack all wired up (used a bridge rectifier, 3 small resistors in series and a switch) to get the perfect run speed, about 6 spm (weights up to weights up).

Waiting for a tank from Korber and a few other things to finish my lease construction. So far so good!

If there's one thing I know, it's the oil & gas industry. This guy's gonna be pretty super detailed but just getting everything flanged together is a start. I don't really like the "wellhead" that was supplied so that'll be substituted with another style and the jack is too new, she needs some rust and character.

You need a nice external floating roof tank to pump all that crude into and I could build any size that you would want.

A floating roof tank would be a little too big for this guy. The Korber 400 bbl is more prototypical for this operation.

Wellhead and signage detail shot... Casing bowl, radigan and flow line valve additions.

Lease almost done... got some big planks (stir sticks) for that Korber 400 to sit on, just need the picker to come and deliver it, then we can plumb it in and build a dike around it!

Also... The only place I've ever seen chain link fence that close around a jack is in a town. I don't really think this scene fits with a "in town" feel. I might add some chain link around the entire lease and then around the loading station where it gets pumped into tank cars...

Fuzz;

Totally agree about the fence and the lack of rust.

Where I grew up these are scattered about the area to the west, no rhyme or reason to facings that you can see from the Highway, but NO FENCES.

I have 6 of these for my new layout, the fences will be used elsewhere.

I had not considered it but I will need some tanks now that you mention it.

I'm thinking some used Salt containers or perhaps oatmeal ones...

A lot of the time they're located and oriented north / south and east / west because of the effect the earth's magnetic field has on the moving parts, believe it or not.

As for tanks, if you grabbed a "sugar in the raw" can and used that, or cut a pringles can about 3/4 the way down, that would work pretty well for a 400 bbl tank, which are frequently seen at remote sites. If I had more room on my layout, which I do not, I'd be building a small oil battery site with an inlet separator, piping and pipe racks, a gas compressor and a few treaters. Maybe when I've got more space and time, I'll build it, but not right now. The Korber models tank, I also noticed has no thief hatch (for inspecting the inside), gauge board (for measuring the level) or top vent (so the tank doesn't turn into a football when liquids are dumped to it or gas flashes off).

The oil and gas industry is never as simple as people think, there's always a lot more going on than meets the eye...
