Hi,

I am trying to do maintenance on my Atlas RS-3 (with TMCC, made maybe five years ago?) and have two questions:

1) How do I get the motor out of the truck so I can lube the worm gear. I removed a screw that looks similar in function to the screw on an MTH truck, but the motor didn't come out yet. I'll keep playing.

2) There is a dead 9V battery in the engine. Should I replace it with a standard battery, or is this engine meant to use a rechargeable of some sort a la MTH?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike: Is this an RS-1 or trainman RS-3? I have an RS-1 (Masterline), but haven't been inside mine yet. I do know the cab casting comes off separately from the body ends if that helps.
In regard to the battery, Atlas"O" doesn't use a recharging circuit; I'd put in a new alkaline or lithium-ion 9 volt if you want to replace. If you run command control exclusively, you don't ned the battery at all-it just powers shut-down sounds or covers momentary power interruptions if cycling the e-unit.

It is the Trainman RS-3. I have the body shell off. I'll put a standard 9V in it, then. I do run TMCC only (and DCS), and sometimes the sound does cut out.

The engine appears to be very clean, but it sparks quite a bit, so I am going to clean the rollers with alcohol and lube everything and see what happens.

The engine speed varies quite a bit as it is going around the layout, but I suspect I am spoiled by Protosounds 2.0 and the EOB type of capability. But, the sparking worries me... I don't want to damage my track (Gargraves). My three MTH engines do not spark.

Thanks,

Mike
