Those of you with Atlas engines that support TMCC, how do they run with the Cab 2 or Base 3 and Cab 3? Do they only support speed steps up to 31, or do they do Legacy protocol (speed up to 199)?

It depends on the vintage of the Atlas engines and what TMCC package they have.
They could have any of the following.
- Original Lionel TMCC, 32 speed steps
- TAS SAW TMCC, 32 speed steps
- TAS EOB TMCC 128 speed steps
- ERR Cruise Commander TMCC 100 speed steps
You need to identify what electronics they have.
Have an Atlas GP7 or GP9, I think its EOB, and it has a whine. It also has some sort of mechanical resonance at low speeds. Also an Atlas GP60, again I think with EOB, and a whine. They have only two center rollers and can stall at low speeds. Atlas engines can also have a problem with ground or outer rail contact, sometimes it painted truck against a painted frame, had some non-powered engine with lights, took me the longest time to track it down, I just assumed it was the center rail, no sir.
I've seen the painted trucks be a problem not only on Atlas engines but also on several runs of Lionel passenger cars. I had one Lionel seven car passenger set that I had to disassemble all the trucks to clean the paint out and then put them back together. That's a few hours that I'll never get back!
