Once again the National Retail Hobby Stores Assoc. (NRHSA) is holding it's annual trade show and expo May 1st to the 4th at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. For over 20 years this show has grown to the "must attend" event for dealers. Hundreds of attendees show up each year to attend seminars, demo's and the famous "Table Top Expo". Over 80 manufactures will be there including Bachmann, Lionel, MTH, Atlas and Woodland Scenics to name a few in the RR field. Stores can learn how to market and sell on the internet, compete on a global market and network with some of the leading retailers in the field. Find out what works for them might work for you at the "Dealer to Dealer" seminar. Go to the manufactures demo's at the boat pond or the RC track in the parking lot. Giant O gauge layout thanks to TTOS in operation. Quads and indoor flying too! Go to www.nrhsa.org for details and registration. Super low discounted hotel rate and airline info. Be sure to check out the schedule and leave some time to check out Vegas also. Any questions please post here or e-mail me direct. The show is open to all "Brick and Mortar" retailers. Thanks and see you in Las Vegas!

Charlie is right, this show is a must for any dealer who wants to deal with the changes in retail that is happening all around us!
I have been a member of NRHSA for several years, and I am just down the road from the Thrones who have been members for a long time too. I wish the trade show would come out east for those of us that cannot close down the business and fly to Las Vegas. I find I do most of my trade show business with the manufacturers at York.
If you have any free time, I highly suggest you check our the Red Rock Canyon Natural Area on the east end of town. It's actually not that far from The Strip and an amazingly beautiful and worthwhile place to visit. It has a convenient loop drive which takes you through the heart of the area and doesn't take all that long to drive. Bring your camera!
JR, we just had Ihobby yesterday in NJ and it was smaller than our show in Vegas. I know it is difficult for store owners to attend but if closing down for a few days is what it takes, many do. In this day and age you can still do things from great distances on a Ipad or lab top. Our industry and way of doing business is changing. Almost 90% of our business is now done outside the store. By attending and meeting other owners face to face you can get a upper hand on this business. You need to limit overhead and maximize sales and you can learn the tricks of the trade by attending. See what others are doing to stay in business and stay relevant. I welcome you to take a few days off and come. We need successful stores and we need to support them. Thanks Charlie...
Dave, Red Rock is a must see. I live only 5 min.s away from it and go offen.
There is still time to make your plans!
Come see Lionel and the others!
Funny that Charlie Nassau is talking about what to do to be a success in today's retail environment when they don't honor requests for a particular road number when there was a full choice of same available on an exclusive run done for them. I'd understand that if a disclaimer was by that item stating no choice on road number which was not the case. When I questioned them about it they blew me off so my business will go to other retailers who truly understand the customer.
645,
I am very sorry this happened to you. This was the first time MTH assigned a separate SKU to the engines per Road Number. We were not aware they were doing this prior to taking pre-orders and customers who ordered all three road numbers together wound up taking a few of the road numbers that were running low on individual sales.
We sell on our website, in our store and over the phone. Without individual SKU's for the different road numbers some road numbers were oversold.
We have taken note of this occurrence and will be sure this does not happen again in the future.
