In the process of starting track and landscaping on an 8' x 12' addition to the layout. I must admit to having some execution challenges these days...lol! It's taken me a while to finish the construction part of the project, and now for the design. Every town has a "used car" dealer...so the first building in the new part of town will be "Djer's Used Car Sales," occupying the abandoned timber company's rail side office. New signage will be forthcoming.
Since timber is so tough to come by in the Pacific Northwest these days because of the "spotted owl" and other rare occupants of the area, the timber company closed it's office here. In the lot so far are some new additions to the layout.
Djer is the guy standing near the front entrance, with his red-headed girlfriend nearby waving to passers by. As the newly appointed Sales Manager, Sally will undoubtedly use her skills of persuasion to sell many cars. The "law" has already stopped by to check things out...she promised the officers that hot coffee will always be available to them anytime they visit! Djer is not a jealous fellow, but a hard-driver when it comes to making the sale
Question to the gang here...do you run out of steam (so to speak) on your layout work from time to time?

Coach, that's a fine looking oil tanker delivery truck...reminds me of the truck that delivered heating oil to our home in the 50's. Corgi has many real nice units...
"Djer's Used Car Sales" isn't even officially open yet...parking lot unpaved and office is not set-up. In spite of that, the first sale was made today by Sally to the young lady buying the red VW with the "tear-drop" trailer! Djer is closing the deal, about to take payment of $300 from Karen. The red VW attracted the attention of the "cruisers" in the yellow Porsche 360...they inquired about the price for another couple, but unfortunately, the deal was already done with Karen...a commitment had been made.
Since the other day, the TR 3 was added to inventory. The dude in the green Buick Grand Sport stopped to check it out...future success is almost guaranteed for Djer at this location...stay tuned...
Paul, Djer’s reminds me of a place about 10 miles from my home. They refurbish old cars and then park them out front for sale. 😊

Sorry about the delay, been away a bit. I've only seen these in the store. They're still there though. Saw a bunch today.
For folks near a Menards, now is the time to visit, my two local Menards seem to have gotten a shipment with a wide variety of die cast
$5 bin included the following vehicles which are mostly online also.
Dodge Sweptsides
WW2 Duce and a half. A particularly great vehicle that was unavailable online for a while. 1:48 Scale Army Truck at Menards®
Dodge Power Wagons
51 ford pickups
48 ford panel trucks
58 Plymouth Furys
Dodge Crew Cab
Modern Ford Transit Vans
The $3 bins have
The SUV (undersized) and trailers I showed earlier.
The 80's vans below.
1/40'ish Hummers in classic (with TOW), open back cargo and hard top medic/van versions. Here's a pic. Figures are 1/56 and 1/50.
Discovered this lovely bit of ridiculous today.
Another 3 buck Menards truck. This is a red-box Denver Die Cast that probably is only available in-store. Unspecified 80's custom van, possibly a GMC Vandura? Has opening front and rear doors. Available in black, orange, and green versions of the same scheme.
No listed scale, but it's a bit big for this 1/56'ish Aquaman so it's probably spot on for 1/48.
Minor drawbacks in the black plastic doors, and period-incorrect wheels, but still a viable addition to an 80's through modern layout. Maybe just re paint it black with a red stripe/swoosh....
On a different track, I'm also currently working on a mashup/cab-swap of the Menards 1956 box truck and the Menards Duce and a Half to make a "Fallout New Vegas" style military truck and a GMC civilian Box Truck.
The asphalt parking lot guy is late getting to do "Djers'" used car parking lot for the grand opening, but in spite of this hold-up, Djer is expanding his inventory and featuring convertibles this week...much activity so far... Several sales have already been made. The camping trio in the black VW have stopped by to talk trade-in for a bigger vehicle, maybe a convertible, as the "law' checks out their out-of-state status....
Hi guys I know I haven't been on this thread for a long time but it sure is nice to see it is still going! Evey one post such wonderful autos!
But I do have to say that even though Paul puts up some nice shots of his dealership and pizza parties! He by far has some of the HOTTEST chicks in his neighborhood! LOL
Mike...good observation! Djer is very particular in his hiring practices! Great sales are expected when the "lot" finally opens, with plenty of primo inventory for sale. His philosophy is to have something for everyone...convertibles, beef, station wagons, European sport, racing, and economy (ie the popular VW bug)...stay tuned
Looks like mustard'.. Cool car'.. They were all the rage back in the day'...
We have 2 layouts. One is in a 12’ x 16’ shed. The other is a 4’ x4’ old style 027 layout in our front room. I have a few vehicles on each layout. One of these cars is a model of my first car (which had been my dad’s). It was a 1950 Cadillac convertible. I found a toy Cadillac hard top in the wrong color at our CVS pharmacy. Not only was it the wrong color, but it was marked underneath as a 1953 model. But it was close enough. I painted it blue like my Caddy was, and made the top look like a “rag top.” Then I found another Caddy model which was also the wrong color and a hard top. I cut the top off and made it look like my Caddy with the top down and painted it blue. One stays on the train shed layout, and the other one stays on the small 027 layout in the front room. In the photos the light makes the colors look very different.
Those Cadillacs and your layouts look great! JohnA
John, the Caddy’s look great!
Ed, I’m sure Jake and Elwood will carry on!
