I was backing up through a diverging switch the other day and something shorted somewhere somehow.

Now I got the blink blink....blink blink...blink blink in the cab light on my Lionel b6 #6-82307. My morse code was rusty so I looked in the manual and that means there is a problem with the main stack element. I wasn't sure how to do the reset so I cleared the settings on the remote. That probably isn't right because I still got the same result. Maybe this was in the manual but at any rate, feel free to chime in with how to go about the reset.

I jumped straight to investigating because I like taking things apart. I'm kind of glad I did because my goodness:

Is this normal? Or is this what it looks like when you run without enough smoke fluid? This was a used locomotive when I got. I'm a big fan of smoke so I always keep it filled up. I doubt I caused this damage.

It looks to me like my smoke resistor (on the left) is shot because I have no continuity across the resistor and I can't get an 8 ohm reading from it. But the thermistor doesn't look like it's in a particularly good shape either.

I believe I will need:

691SMKP008 smoke unit batting

6308472226 gasket (I ripped mine, whoops)

691RES8OHM smoke resistor 8 ohm

Then maybe I would need the thermistor which is unavailable from the Lionel parts website.

I'm looking for some input on whether or not everything should be replaced or just the resistor and batting. Any thoughts?

Just an extra question: What is the difference in all the complete smoke units found here? There a number of options down at the bottom. I only see one geared towards Vision line. The rest all seem to be the same. Is that the case?

Also, kind of cool to see k-line make an appearance on the shell:
