Love the B&O. Love those humpbacked GP30's.

When I went for the O scale  models, I opted for the MTH version. I quickly found both powered units - in different road numbers - and then had to wait and wait until finally a dummy unit found its' way to me.  Thought I was in hog heaven at that point when suddenly another dummy unit - an "un-cataloged" item - popped up.

I was fortunate enough to win the auction for this piece. Turns out that this B&O GP30 dummy was a pre-production paint sample also used for "show and tell" by salesmen.

Differences between the pre-production and actual production dummy units are evident in the size of the number on the side of the cab, the size and placement of both the B&O emblem and the 'rising sun' logo. Also you'll notice that the number boards are decal/stickers much like what Williams does on some of their diesels.  Other than that, the actual locomotive is the same.

All 4 at a time makes for an impressive consist and I get to own a little piece of MTH history.
