Hello all ...

So has anyone seen a model of the Royal Blue (1890-1917)before ??
Cars wood ..some Bristol board in Vestibules ...first train to use enclosed vestibules?
1/4" scale ...2 trucks bronze ..3rd  modified Walther's
Hand lettering ..not the best ..but better than anything I could do .
I assume scratch built .. late 30's - 40's
The coach prototype still remains at the B& O roundhouse in Baltimore..
Need to find a proper B& O early steamer for pulling .. till then the Egolf PRR American will fill in .

Starting in 1890. B&O took delivery of 10 Baldwin heavy 4-4-0's with 78" drivers for the Blue.

The CNJ got eight end cab 4-4-0,s with 79" drivers and the Reading  bought 11 2-4-2 Camelback's with 78" drivers.

All three railroads installed track pans starting in 1890 along the route of the Blue so a scoop on the tender would be a nice detail.

The Reading and the CNJ later pooled their power to cut time off the schedule and the B&O eventually used their own power all the way.

Carey - gloroius photos!  Thanks for posting!

The book Royal Blue Line by Herbert H. Harwood, Jr. is a great read.  It documents the history of B&O's Royal Blue Line from inception to CSX, including the last B&O passenger train to run on the Royal Blue Line on April 26, 1958.   You may already have read this book, if not, it's definitely worth the read.

In regard to your question about motive power used from 1890 - 1917 on the Royal Blue Line:  According to Harwood's book, the B&O also had 4 - 6- 0 locos built by  Baldwin 1896- 1901 .... 4-4-2's built by Baldwin in 1910 ... and 4-6-2s built by ALCO/ Schenectady  in 1906 and 4-6-2s built by Baldwin in 1913. These locomotives were used on the Royal Blue line and are in addition to locos others here have already stated.  Although a short segment of the Royal Blue Line, the Baltimore Belt Line used steeple cab electric locomotives during the time period 1895- through 1917 and beyond.  The build dates for the electrics are 1895, 1903, 1906, 1910, and 1912 for your time period with 1923 & 1927 being the final build dates for the electrics locomotives purchased by B&O.
