Certain Lionel operating accessories originally came with wire “pigtails” for hook-up.
For example, the # 80 Semaphore, and the # 78 Block Signal.
Has anyone upgraded such units by adding a base with binding-posts ?
If so, what material / design did you use for the base?

You can get packs of these:
Lionel 153-4 Binding Posts (riveted or nut mount)
Lionel 88-2 Binding Nuts
And then mount them on your own supply of non-conductive material (polystyrene, acrylic, etc) . You could probably 3D print something just to meet your needs.

Any recommendations for the base material ? I was thinking of layering Masonite, painted black...
Is black phenolic / Micarta / similar available in small sheets ?
( 3-D printing not an option for me...)
