I just acquired a lionel 6 28070 but there was no owner's manual. Does this one require a battery and if so where is it placed?

If you run TMCC, then no. If you run conventional you need the battery to keep the sounds from going dead when changing direction. Not sure where it goes in that engine, but most of my TMCC engines require I take the shell off.
#1 Lionel engines do not "require" a battery. The battery is optional when running conventional to keep sounds as you momentarily drop power for direction changes. MTH PS1 and PS2 "require" a battery to operate.
#2 Read the manual to your engine. If you know the product number- then use the Lionel support website and enter the number. https://www.lionelsupport.com/...-2-E-6-Atlantic-3000

If you think you need a battery, consider the YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement
, you install it once, and you're done for the life of the locomotive. Since Lionel only supports Alkaline batteries, you have to periodically replace those if you use them, they don't recharge.
Thanks everyone. Vernon, the link you posted got me to the manual I needed. Thanks.
