Dear Friends,

Many on this site spend quite a bit of time working at their bench repairing trains in one form or another.  Be it the mechanical aspect or the electronics.  There always is something to do to them - no matter their age.

While perusing eBay, I saw a Lionel test bench being offered for $7,000.

This got me thinking - wouldn't it be nice to have something like this but setup for our more contemporary trains?

Is their a market for such a test bench in which you could easily test the electronics of your trains using such a system?

If so, what should it look like and more importantly - what would you be willing to pay?

For myself, I'd love to have one all encompassing unit and be willing to pick one up for $1,500 max - pipe dream possibly?

What are your thoughts?

Truthfully, that $7,000 test bench is more for the collector than the repair guy.  The capability offered there is not applicable to a lot of the Lionel products.

I can't imagine a test fixture that would cover all the bases.  I have a variety of ways to test stuff from Lionel and MTH.  For most TMCC stuff, I have cobbled together a tester that hits most of the high points and allows me to test most of the electronics.  This has grown from a simple rig as I needed more capability.  For the MTH electronics, I have a couple of test fixtures from MTH.

I found a ESU esu dccDCC test station on EBAY.

It is just a pc board with a dc can motor mounted to test with your own DCC boards.

It is great for testing old or used DCC boards before mounting them inside your locomotives.

I have that one as well.  Works well and is a relative bargain.  Got it here:
