Berkshire jr (HELP)

When I had a Berkshire Jr, it ran great and occassionaly would derail on a Lionel 027 manual switch. Never had it derail on an 027 curve.

Mine never ran reliably on O27 track, so I moved it over to my 031 loop, where it ran well and rarely derailed through my 022 switches.

It's been 3-4 years since my layout was operational, but I recall having similar problems with my NKP Junior Berk.  I think the 2-wheel leading trucks are less forgiving than the 4-wheel front trucks on a Hudson.  Most of my problems were going through switches.

I never really solved the problem.  Wish I had more for you other than "I feel your pain."

Same here.  The drivers bound up on O-27 curves.

I just recalled after reading raising4daughters reply that I did notice on my Berk that the groove that the front two leading wheel trucks were set into on the bottom of the loco would sometimes bind that truck causing it to derail.  Try moving it back and forth and you will see what I mean......the tight curve of the 027 would bind those wheels when the loco went through a curve or a switch.  Try greasing that area and if it is indeed the problem.....and you feel brave.....take a rat tail file to it and smooth that groove out a bit.
