I have a dozen plus, MTH rechargeable battery's from a change over to BCR's. What is the safest/best way to store them. Presently I just put all of them in a zip-loc freezer bag. Is there any potential hazard with storing all these battery's in this manner?

just to be safe, i'd put a piece of scotch tape over the terminals. don't need to do anything else--
Why keep them if you aren't going to be using them?
I heard putting them in the fridge keeps them longer ... true or old wives tale?
Don't know for sure, but I have seen people do it. Maybe it does work?

If you need to dump them, take them to a Beest Buy or a place which recycles them. They are a Haz-Mat material.
I would not recommend freezing. This is more likely to cause the cells to burst. Cold also "kills" batteries.
Keep the terminals for shorting out and place them in a heavy duty zip lock bag. If you don't intend to use them then dispose of them properly. Some towns allow for recycling batteries so long as they can't short out during disposal.
I would not tape the terminals but put a small piece of cardboard over the terminal and then tape the cardboard to the side of the battery. You don't want any thing on the top of the battery terminal to corrode it or cause loss of electric power when you go to use the battery again.
Also to put your batteries in the refrigerator is most likely an old wife's tale. Just put them on a battery charger for 10 hours before using again, if it's the MTH battery.
Mainly keep the batteries dry and under 85 degrees.
