It is easy, (not now of course), to go to trainworld.I have taken the A train to Dntn. Brooklyn, the the F to Ditmus ave. Depending where you are in the city you can take the F direct. Trainworld is 500' from the station.
Any other shops close to town??? Later in month when things should be running well again?
kj356,
May be a little far north of city but if you have the time ..... http://www.tomstrainsny.com/
Thanks that is good info.
Can always do a phone order when in town and get it shipped, perhaps you recommend spending time on the walking tour posted last year on the Forum; Any updates?
I concur with Mr Nabisco No train stores worth the effort here. If you go to TrainWorld don't expect a warm welcome to just hang out. Its a little early for the train items on Skips walking tour but there are hundreds of things to do.
"The High Line Park"
a must, although the elevated position might be a little tough in cold, windy conditions.
"close to town". ???
Do you mean Manhattan? While it is the smallest part of the city it's still 23 square miles in area.
What about going to see the stone viaduct on park ave than was built in the 1800s and is still in use today?

Will be later this month for the visit. Checked with Trainworld if you buy in store have to pay the sales tax get it shipped pay shipping charge. Might be cheaper to ship depending on how much I spend. Think I will skip the visit. The train stuff in stores should be open after Thanksgiving and expect most of the city will be running again.
John is correct. I try to visit whenever I come in to NY/NJ and have time. The food is very good, the layout is terrific and the members are the best.
