This morning I saw a promo for the Big Bang Theory. It looks like the show is going to have a train theme tonight.

Here is a preview (I didn't look at it).

Usually TV shows do not present Model Railroaders in a positive light, and I don't think this show will be any exception.
Still, the show is funny.

If you mean not positive where TV shows don't present model railroaders in any way other than how the public at large already perceive us, you'd be correct.

But then, same holds true in how the Big Bang Theory hardly shows geeks, Trekkies, gamers, Renaissance & comic book fans in a positive light either does it?

Well, if Big Bang Theory does show one thing, it's that even train nuts can have a decent relationship.

Actually, the TV guide explains that it'll be in Napa Valley wine country, so it'll probably be set on the real tour train.

I feel for you John, I was rooting for the Broncos since my guys didn't even make a good show of it all year. I watched about 10 minutes of the game and decided to go do some train stuff in the basement, I've been watching games like that all season.

Well, yeah, given that scrimmage with Seattle.

It is the Napa wine train they are supposed to be on.  The show is shot on the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank.  Season two had an episode that was supposed to be on the Coast Starlight.  The set design crew did a very credible job of the interior of an AmtrakSuper-liner  .  They even shot footage from the route to fill in the windows ala North by Northwest.

Looking forward to tonights episode.

Big Bang is super isn't it? And esp Leonard's girlfriend!!!

thanks to Chuck for giving us an insight as to what we will be watching !!!

BTW, my grandaughter's birthday was Sunday and she and I picked the Seahawks

amongst many any groans from her mom and her family. She turned 16 so that's a

winner.

Unfortunately you probably had plenty of train time Sunday. I didn't have a dog in that fight and felt sorry for the Broncos.

Well...first time ever...I watched that show....cornpone!...and, yes, it protrayed

railroad historians as geeks. Railroaders, of course, wondered if the question about link and pin couplers was a bone thrown to us, or did the writers just not know any better?  And then I see mention on here of spectator sports.....while "Eric" there

recited a lot of misinformation about trains, you can find his counterpart babbling

about how many home runs Honus Wagner hit in 1908 or some such. I find the adulation of other humans weirder than that of manmade objects.  (I could not

say that in North Korea)   I know a car nut, and his wife!!, who can outdo "Eric" on their subject.    But...different strokes....

I have been right, and grabbing the remote when that show comes on.

Thought the show was pretty good.  The interior of the passenger cars certainly looked bigger/wider than reality but thought the attention to detail was nicely done.  My wife is ready to sign up for a Napa Valley Wine Train excursion after watching so it can't be all that bad.

Remember one of Sheldon's best lines on the show from a few seasons ago

"it's O gauge or no gauge"

I missed it, but I have got to see if I can find it. Those of us who work in Disability Determination and are railfans (and there are several in the office) are roaring over a comment made by a real foamer last night. When asked "how many trains have you ridden?" he supposedly replied: "A bunch. Ever since that box fell on my head at UPS all I do is collect disability and ride trains."

Oh God... I AM Sheldon!  Or worse... the UPS guy.

Jon

Yes Amy said "Alcoa". I wonder if they couldn't legally say "Alco"?

My wife watches this and recorded it for me when she saw there was going to be a train theme.  I think it's a horrible show--there's not a likable character in the lot, and writing based on nothing but obscure Star Wars/Trek, comic book, and video game references (despite the fact I get them all) doesn't cut it.  Different strokes and all that, but I can't find a thing to like about this show, and I'm somewhat near the target demo.

My wife says it hits too close to home for me to like it.  I'd contend it's just tragically unfunny.  While the train theme wasn't enough to redeem it for me, if I was on disability with extra funds and no family, I'd probably just ride trains around all the time, too.
