I have an MTH PS-1 RDC unit that sounded the three clanks "kiss of death". I used/followed the MTH "Make PS" reprogram chip according to the instructions about five times. I get as far as the 2 bell sounds indicating the reprograming took place, but I am stuck in the reset mode. I try to activated the Reset 18 factory reset setting but nothing happens...I can hear some static type of clicking but nothing is indicating I've achieved the 18 reset. The engine/RDC does not respond at all...just sits there!

Does the DCRU electronic reverse unit depend on the QSI sound card for it's operation or does it work independently?

Can I somehow run in a conventional mode using only the DCRU?

Worse case take all the PS-1 electronics out and put in a Williams reverse unit and sound card?

I initially scrambled the PS-1 program by trying to use a Lionel ZW transformed that did not have a pure AC wave. I am now using a MTH Z4000.

Thanks for any advice!

RockyRoad,  This is an MTH ProtSounds unit so the bottom board is not a DCRU.  The bottom board powers the top board and the top board provides the logic to operate the bottom board as an E-unit.

First, do you have a good battery in the engine or if BCR have you let it charge for 45 secs before trying resets?

After you use the make PS chip do you shut down and wait 20secs before swapping back in the original chip?  What sounds does the engine make when you start it up after the original chip is put back in?

You should hear 2 dings and then the engine idle sounds should start.  Does it do that?  Let me know and we can go from there.  G

I have a new MTH battery ( that I tested with a meter) installed in the RDC car. I initially heard the 2 bell sounds after I used the reprogram chip. I was well beyound the 20 seconds wait period before I reinstalled the original chip. After reinstalling the oiginal chip, I put the car into the reset mode and then went through the "factory default 18" process.

No sounds from the car at all after the original chip is installed...except some muffled clicks as though it was trying to set something.
