I want to revisit this, as done by WillyGee and some others; I'm thinking of using a Bluetooth pair of switchable transmitter / receivers, and just soldering a 3.5mm jack inline to the speaker of my diesels and use my surround sound system for the paired receiver... I'm thinking this should fit in an F unit.

WillyGee's original video:

Pairing BT TX/RX...

They're not sold as Fission here in the US, but under the Indigo brand.

Think it'll work?

I should be able to solder the left & right leads to one of the poles, and the common to the other.  Does it make a difference which speaker pole?

Thanks,
Mario

Ok, good news. I ordered a BT transmitter and it should be here any day. It has a 3.5mm input so in going to solder a set of wires to the speaker, in parallel, in my Lionel FT that I've upgraded the
Railsounds from generic EMD to their OEM F unit sounds (see video on YouTube) and I already have a BT receiver for both my Samsung surround sound and a portable boom box. I'll try the boom box first, as that would be easiest. The Samsung is not set up and I don't know where the iPod dock is for that.

But what's nice about the Samsung is with its built in equalizer and separate powered subwoofer, I can set it up so only the woofer is plugged in without the satellite speakers, so I'll only get the bass.  It's all about that bass...

Thanks,

Mario
