I've noticed that some Prewar Lionel boxes are taped with what seems to be a fabric tape on one side. I have a set box that this tape is torn on. Is their anywhere to get this tape? I want to tape it to prevent damage.

It is not available. I collected sets and many times an otherwise perfect box had the taped corner pulling loose or torn. I looked high and low and no one makes it. You can sometimes get close at a specialty manufacturer, but then they only have white, and you need tan to be correct. I resorted to using reenforced brown paper packing tape 2" wide. It looks good and serves the purpose.
Would your local library maybe be able to help? Or at least refer you to a supplier of book restoration supplies?
win86 is on the right track, I used a gummed linen tape years ago for a bookbinding class. I think it was by Lineco or something like that. It was white linen-like cloth and you had to wet the adhesive side.
Thanks guys, I'll try it!
