30th Street Station is only 2 SEPTA stops away from Reading Terminal Market at Market Street East/PA Convention Center. Great place for lunch and dinner (www.readingterminalmarket.org). A SEPTA Museum with a restored PCC is nearby at 1234 Market Street

Take any SEPTA train for Center City - free for Amtrak passengers. Returning to 30th Street Station, board any train at Track 3 or Track 4.

For meeting downtown you could take any SEPTA Regional Rail Line into Market East station to get to Reading Terminal Market, or the Gallery food court or Hard Rock Cafe.

Another idea is the Country Diner up the road from Nicholas Smith where we met before.  A good meal and then hang out in the store!

I like the Nicholas Smith location, I can shop and eat, it doesn't get any better than that!

I'd be interested closer to the summer. The Thunderbird http://www.theoriginalthunderb...home.html which is right next to Nicholas Smiths is a great place.

Mmmmm .... cheese steak and a milk shake at the Thunderbird. Then back into NS.

Well I may need to drive up for this.  An opportunity for a Cheese Steak and a street vendor soft pretzel before it turns into a hard pretzel sound interesting!  G

I like this idea, although the Terminal Market will be a "zoo" trying to get a bunch of seats together for lunch (I've eaten there many times). The restored PCC is well worth seeing. If you want, my layout is "open", and I'm a 8 minute walk to the Moylan-Rose Valley train station, as well as a 12 minute drive to N.Smith Trains.

Hey Joe, if you do it at your house could a couple of New Yawkers join you? Locolawyer and I might be up for a day trip depending on when it is. Might even get PRRBill to come along.

Both the Thunderbird & the Reading Terminal suffer from the same problem; lack of room. And since Dave said talk, the Terminal also suffers from being way too noisy.  I used to go to the Thunderbird religiously but that food has been cut out due to advancing old age & wanting to take better care of myself.  The Country Squire, just up the road, was where I would go to every night after closing the midnight shift at the Shell station I worked at back in the early '70s (I was a Petroleum Transfer Technician) but their food isn't anywhere near the same (come to think of it, what is?).  

If you want to meet in Center City and on a weekend, something like the Hard Rock would be good but you'd need to ask for a small room which would require a minimum # of people.  One set of possibilities would be the new food stores in the former Wayne Acme building which are on Lancaster Ave.  Also no cost/problem with parking.  There's also a Bertucci's about 1 mile west of them.

The only REAL place to meet & talk trains is Harold's.  Limo anyone?

I like the idea of meeting somewhere close to Nicholas Smith, no reason to drive for hours.  I'm sure there are decent places reasonably close to the store.

I was born in Ridgewood, Queens and my accent is a mix of NYC, NJ, and Philly...in other words, as bad as it gets.

The first plans for the blue route were drawn up by Ben Franklin.

The McDonalds just west of NS at rt 320 and rt 3 isn't bad.  NS is a good meeting spot though.  I'd be interested.

You could consider the downtown Marriott. Our group has met there for their great breakfast on the first floor.

It is at the SEPTA market street east train stop and the Hard rock cafe is also locted there.

It can be easily reached from any SEPTA Train Line.

Also close to the PATCO station and can be reached from NYC by SEPTA Trenton Line.

South Jersey by NJT -gamblers and PATCO 

I live in Boothwyn. NS is my LHS. I'd be in for this. May I suggest Jimmy Johns on 202 in Glenn Mills/Chadds Ford as a possible meeting place.

If everyone is meeting in Center City---coming in by train---how about The Field House?

Sports-bar kinda place---good food.

It's next to The Hard Rock and seems to be a little more open/spacious---depending on how many people are coming.

We were there a couple of weeks ago for The Home Show---the place was full but didn't seem crazy/crowded.

When The Hard Rock is full you can't move.

OK...that's settled. We are going to Baltimore and having kosher hot dogs at Mike Taylor's house.

If we meet in Phila, it seems that hitting Nicholas Smith would be a non-starter.  It's really not that close.

Well from emails I have received it looks like we will meet at N. Smith.  Also where to Eat in the area of N. Smith.

What we need now is what week and day.  I'm thinking 1st or 2nd week of May.

For those taking the trains some of us could make arrangements to pick you guys up along the R5 septa train route.

I would like the opportunity to meet members of the forum. Nicholas Smith area sounds good, I was there this morning. It is about an hour drive for me from Huntingdon Valley.

I think You're missing the point.  My car would be either in Phila or at a train station somewhere, so going to NS is only half the picture.

Nicholas Smith and the Thunderbird is a cool idea because I love both places. The only problem is for the people who would wont to come in by train, they may have a bit of a problem getting out to Broomall.

Of course I would be happy to pick who ever up at 30th street but my Ford can only take three people besides the driver, that's me.
