Is there any way to do a home repair for a  broken armature wire or is it best to have it professionally repaired?

A friend of mine stopped by with his 682 post war Pennsylvania turbine. It didn't run too well and, while cleaning and oiling it, I saw that one of the armature winding wires was broken. Unfortunately, it's not at the soldered connection; the wire is broken. My hunch is that he should take it in, but I'd appreciate your opinions.

Thanks,

Jim

Thank you all. I'm not sure what I will do at this point. I can see both ends of the break, but my soldering skills are … um … unsophisticated. I kinda like the idea of just replacing the armature. I have to think about this some more.

On a related note, between the armature and the commutator (right word?), I can't determine if I'm seeing a thick wad of carpet fiber or some sort of fiber washer. Is that something that should come out or stay in?
